Barbara Halcrow: a woman of inspiration

The Family and Social Support Practitioners are honoured to acknowledge and celebrate our colleague, Barbara Halcrow, who is retiring in December 2012.

Barbara is a compassionate woman of many talents who has been a true gift to the profession of social work and to the many clients and colleagues who she has worked with over the years.

While with VCH, Barbara has been the Social Work Practice Leader at GF Strong Rehab Centre and the Professional Practice Leader of Social Work at Richmond Hospital. For the last 7 years, Barbara has been the Family and Social Support Practitioner at Three Bridges Community Health Centre. Barbara has led training for ReACT: providing leadership around Adult Guardianship Legislation and working with adults who are neglected, self-neglected or abused. Barbara has demonstrated tremendous clinical skill in working with clients in complex situations and has brought a spiritual grounding and wonderful sense of humour to her work.

Barbara has many accomplishments including recently being awarded the “Professional of the Year in Social Services”, from the WorldWide Who’s Who Registry of Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs for 2012-2013. She was also honoured by the International Women’s Leadership Association for her contributions and was selected as “Woman of Outstanding Leadership in Childcare.”

In addition to working in healthcare, Barbara is very passionate about writing. She published her first book in May 2011, “Spiritual Intelligence”; she is also featured in the anthology “Change One Belief: Inspirational Stories About How Changing One Belief Can Change Your Life”.
Barbara will be dearly missed but we are excited for Barbara’s next phase and know that she will continue to make significant contributions through future endeavours.
