Clinical and systems transformation leadership

Dear staff,

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), along with Providence Health Care (PHC) and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), are about to embark on the strategy and verification phase of our Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) project.

This is part of the second phase of the long-term initiative that will standardize our various clinical systems and processes to help VCH, PHC, and PHSA attain a single electronic health record for our patients that will follow them across the continuum of care. Once in place, CST will support safer, high quality care by ensuring clinicians have a greater level of accurate and consistent patient information at the touch of their fingers regardless of their location.

Leading the CST operationally on behalf of the three organizations as we enter the next phases is Rebecca Hahn as Project Director and Chief Transformation Officer. Rebecca joins the CST initiative from her position as Director of eHealth Programs for IMITS and will play a key role in helping VCH, PHC and PHSA to achieve our shared vision of a common, standardized, and integrated end-to-end clinical information system in all our acute, ambulatory, and residential sites.

Playing a key role in CST to this point has been Susan Wannamaker as Vice-President of Clinical and Systems Transformation for VCH and PHC. However, Susan recently suffered a serious injury and resulting surgery that requires her to spend some time focusing on recovery and rehabilitation. As a result, Mike Nader will support Rebecca and her team moving forward as Executive Sponsor for VCH during this period. Mike will remain as Chief Operating Officer for the Richmond Community of Care but be actively involved in ensuring VCH’s needs and concerns are identified and addressed as CST rolls out.

Susan will continue as Chief Nursing Officer and Executive Lead for Professional Practice for VCH, as well as Executive Sponsor for the Regional Surgical Services Program. These ongoing responsibilities will be important as we work with nurses and other allied health professionals to transform how we work to enable clinical transformation as well as the integration and standardization of patient information.

Please join me in welcoming Rebecca Hahn to her new position, as well as Mike Nader as Executive Sponsor. I also encourage you to support Susan in her recovery and rehabilitation, and we look forward to welcoming her back to the fold in the coming months.
