UBC Family Practice residents honour LGH docs Shannon Chestnut and George Chang

The UBC Family Practice residency program has training sites all over the province and Coastal is one of the newer sites. Its first cohort of residents started in July 2014 and it has recently graduated its second group of family doctors.

Every year, residents across the program nominate faculty and preceptors for Postgraduate Teaching Awards (one to two nominees per site) and its residents wanted to award more physicians from Lions Gate Hospital and Coastal communities who have made extraordinary contributions to the residents’ education at the Coastal site.

The Coastal Choice award was established this summer and its inaugural recipients are Dr. Shannon Chestnut, the physician lead for VCH’s successful Coastal Simulation Program, and surgeon Dr. George Chang.

“Shannon has been instrumental in creating and delivering a robust simulation program that greatly enhances our residents’ experience and it is frequently mentioned as one of the strengths of Coastal FP site,” says Jana OgdenovaSite Coordinator, Family Practice Residency Program | University of British Columbia Coastal Site l Lions Gate Hospital.

Shannon was selected by the Family Practice residents at the Coastal Site to be one of the first recipients of “Coastal Choice” teaching award for 2016-2017 academic year. The award, in the form of a certificate, recognizes preceptors who have made extraordinary contributions in the area of teaching and education at Coastal Site.

“Your hard work and enthusiasm is so much appreciated by all residents and faculty,” says Jana.

The recipients of UBC Family Practice Postgraduate Teaching Award (for the Coastal site) were Dr. Nasim Mahmoudi and Foundry North Shore GP Dr. Hayley Broker.
