A previous winner tells all

In 2010, John Burgess was our Commuter of the Year; chosen because of his impressive daily commute from central Surrey to Vancouver, using a combination of bicycle and SkyTrain.

You can read his full story on why he chooses to leave his car at home and how he makes it work on the Cut the Carbon Community (C3) site, under Peer Leader Profiles.

More on the award

Every year, Bett Lauridsen, transportation coordinator at the VGH Commuter Centre, promotes and collects nominations for the Commuter of the Year.

Bett works to promote healthier commuting patterns for staff. Her goal is to get people to walk, bike, bus, shuttle or carpool to work. She decided to promote this behaviour change by giving a Commuter of the Year award that recognizes the efforts of those that leave their car at home. She hopes that hearing stories like that of John Burgess will encourage people to look at their own commute, and she’s pleased to honour and reward those who are leading the way!

This year, the award is open to staff from FHA, PHSA, PHC and VCH.

How to make your nomination by November 9
