Sharon Stapleton: a leader, a nurse and an inspiration to many.

Sharon Stapleton Memorial Leadership Education Fund welcomes nominations

If you know a Vancouver Acute health care professional with high leadership potential, now is the time to nominate this future leader for the Sharon Stapleton Memorial Leadership Education Fund. Nominations welcome until September 23.

The fund honours the memory of Sharon Stapleton, beloved leader and friend, who passed away peacefully in the VGH Palliative Care Unit earlier this year. Throughout her 10 years at VGH, UBCH and Lower Mainland Labs (PHSA), Sharon was always a strong believer in the importance of education. In 2009, she completed her Masters from Royal Roads University (Master of Arts in Leadership with specialization in Health) while maintaining her full-time role at the hospital.

Continuing her legacy of passion for education, the Sharon Stapleton Memorial Leadership Education Fund was established by her family, with the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, to support Vancouver Acute nursing or allied health care professionals showing high leadership potential with up to $5,000 of funding for leadership training.

It was Sharon’s belief that fostering leadership through education was the key to successful health care; her wish was for health professionals, who would not otherwise have the financial resources to do so, would receive leadership training to support their growth in the organization and help them reach their leadership potential.

The annual bursary of up to $5,000 is presented annually to a single recipient with this year’s special award ceremony taking place in November 2016.
