Firefighters heating up VGH in October

The weather will be getting cooler (eventually), but you won’t know it at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).

On Wednesday, October 4, firefighters featured in the 2018 Hall of Flame Calendar will be autographing the latest edition at Jim Pattison Pavilion.

The calendar sells for $20. Sales proceeds go towards the B.C. Professional Firefighters’ Burn, Trauma and High Acuity Unit at VGH. The province’s largest burn centre, the unit provides a wide range of services to treat and improve the quality of life for people who suffer from severe burns and wounds. Over the years, the calendars have raised as much as $15,000 for the cause.

They’ve also raised some controversy.

“Some may view the Hall of Flame Calendar as controversial, but we like to look at it as a tongue-in-cheek approach that capitalizes on firefighter stereotypes, but at the same time raises money for local charities and promotes a healthy lifestyle amongst our firefighters,” says James Docherty, one of the calendar’s coordinators, as well as a firefighter with Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service.

Come join us and support a great cause!

Day: Wednesday, October 4

Time: 3:15 to 5 pm

Location: VGH Jim Pattison Pavilion

We LOVE our first responders. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I buy the calendar every year. SO fun!!!!
Controversy? Firefighter stereotype? I must say that I have not seen one firefighter in my MANY years of life that is not exceptionally awesome so technically that makes it NOT a stereotype, right? Support our first responders!
