Ground-Breaking Work, Life-Changing Experience – Recruitment Underway in the Downtown Eastside

Health services in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) are undergoing a system transformation.  After years of planning and consultation, VCH is launching new programs and an innovative new service delivery model that puts clients at the centre of everything we do.  With the needs of this unique client population at the core of our services, we are looking for more staff to deliver the ground-breaking and life-altering services that have gained VCH international recognition and praise.

Keira St. George, joined the DTES team in 2014 as a clinic nurse and became an outreach nurse with the Primary Outreach Service (POS) in 2015, where she went on to become the clinical coordinator.  In 2017 she took on the role of DTES clinical educator.

“I get to work with some of the most creative, passionate and inspiring individuals – both health care providers and health care consumers,” she said. “Our teams care deeply about the people who live in the DTES, who are some of the most marginalized people in BC.  They need us, which makes this very meaningful work.  I’ve recently helped develop the clinical education program to support our new service delivery model – a great career opportunity for me, and an example of how we support our staff with ongoing training and career development opportunities. This is a great place to work.”

More Jobs, New Opportunities – Tell Your Friends!

A new integrated service delivery model will be implemented in the DTES in January 2018.  This means more jobs and new opportunities, as teams are established to deliver services around individual client needs.  This interdisciplinary approach includes physicians, nurse practitioners, RNs, RPNs, LPNs, social workers, concurrent disorders counsellors, community liaison workers, clinical support clerks and peers.  All staff are supported with a comprehensive education program.

Postings are up for all vacancies in the DTES and we are looking for people like you – talented, committed, and compassionate.  Please spread the word as we hope to have all these roles filled and everyone ready for go-live in January.
