Save the Veins Online Module Now Released
Do you know that it is important to protect the veins of your Client’s with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD)? Learn how by completing the new “Save the Veins” online learning module.
Many healthcare practitioners are unaware of the importance of protecting the veins of patients with advanced CKD. As a result they continue to perform procedures (e.g. venipuncture) that may endanger the patient’s functioning dialysis access or blood vessels that may be required for future access creation. In an effort to spread the word of the importance of vein preservation, the online learning module, “Save the Veins: Supporting Clients with Chronic Kidney Disease” was developed. This interactive online module covers the following topics:
- The importance of vein preservation in clients with CKD
- How to determine which clients need your support
- The best practices clinicians should follow when working with CKD clients (e.g. selecting the best site for venipuncture)
- An online quiz to test your knowledge
The Save the Veins online module is available, free of charge, to clinical staff of all BC health authorities on the Course Catalogue Registration System (CCRS). The module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and can be done at home or at work. On successful completion of the online quiz, the learner can print a certificate of completion.
