On Saturday, August 11, the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre will experience a two-hour electrical shutdown from 0900 to 1100 hrs. This outage is necessary in order for BC Hydro to upgrade the centre’s main transformer and ensure our electrical supply is delivered at optimal voltage levels.
If you work at Diamond, the following is important information you need to know and act on:
Lab refrigeration
Please contact the lab if you have any lab supplies that require refrigeration or other needs.
Computers
All computers/printers must be shut down before the power downtime. To avoid the possible risk of damage to your computer/printer please follow these steps to shut down your computer:
- select “Shut Down” from the Start Menu in the lower left-hand corner of your screen
- next, select “Shout Down” from the drop-down list
- click “OK”
You are not required to unplug the computer or printer. This is an exception to the Log Off procedure that you follow under normal circumstances.
On August 13, 2012 you will be able to log on as normal once you turn the computer/printer on.
For further information, contact the Service Desk at 604.875.4334 or servicedesk@vch.ca or UBC Service Desk at 1.877.266.0666 or medit.servicedesk@ubc.ca
Telephone and faxes
All phones and fax machines will be out of service for the duration of the power shutdown. Analog wall phones located near the elevators are not affected and remain operational.
Cisco Contact Center clients will need to remember to log out of the telephone queuing system.
Voicemail
Voicemail will continue to function. Callers will be able to leave messages and users can still access their voicemail boxes. It is recommended that you update your voicemail greeting to notify callers of the power shutdown. Please advise callers to re-send any faxes on Monday morning if their fax attempts are unsuccessful.
For further information, please contact Voice Services at 604.675.2401 (ext. 52401). Any service issues or questions unrelated to the planned power outage should be directed to the service desk (VA @ 604.875.4334 or UBC @ 1.877.266.0666)
Computer access (data network)
All computer access (i.e., the data network) will be unavailable for the duration of the power outage at Diamond. Network Services staff will be onsite once power has been restored to begin restoring network access for the building. All web access to email and BlackBerries will continue to function.
For further information, please contact the appropriate Helpdesk (VA @ 604.875.4334 or UBC @ 1.877.266.0666)
If you have a private provider to support your computer equipment or software, please make your own arrangements.
Radiology and PACS
Radiology and HTM Radiology Services have made arrangements for proper shutdown and power-on of equipment affected. Diamond Radiology will resume operations as usual by August 13, 2012. For further information, please contact Ahmad at 604.875.4111 (ext. 67162).
Diamond parkade
Parking at Diamond will remain available during the shutdown. The gates will be open for access and egress until power is restored. Once power is restored, standard parking activity will return.
Emergency power will serve the building parkade lighting; however, it will provide sufficient illumination for those requiring parkade access but it will be at a reduced level.
