Clean Commuter Challenge – the winners!

email_banner-1

Thank you to all those that made the Clean Commuter Challenge a great success! This year’s three-week campaign had greater participation & a more enthusiastic response than ever before, demonstrating that there is a lot of interest in sustainable transportation!

A 400% increase in team participation

We went from 11 teams in 2012 to 47 teams in 2013! The stories & data show that some healthy competition & comradeship lead to great results!

Capturing personal stories

Throughout the Challenge, we collected stories from the bike-path / transit system & ride shares. Log-in to BCGreenCare.ca for more updates over the coming weeks!

  • “I have enjoyed the Challenge and the chance to give shout-outs to our clean commuting heroes! One of my colleagues, Kavita Chohan, walks to work – in every sort of weather – rain, snow, sleet and blistering sun. She usually has a smile on her face as she motors along.”

-Carol Anderson, Social Worker, PHSA.

  • “While I’m a regular cycling commuter, the Clean Commuter Challenge was a great way to get a lot of others in our building to look at different ways of getting to work that have less impact on the environment and keep us healthier. I’m definitely a happier commuter in the weeks when we don’t have to cycle in the rain (and I don’t get mistaken for a courier in my full cycling gear).  Thanks for putting this challenge on – it definitely raised awareness and the friendly competitive spirit within our team!” – David Lee, Change Specialist with THINK PHC | Project Management Office.
  • “I loved the Commuter Challenge and now I’m trying to figure out how to leave my car at home and start bike-commuter-community nursing! I can probably make it happen! During the challenge, I cycled most days, rain or shine, and often in the wind…as its pretty windy up here in Squamish!” Nancy Skucas, a Public Health Nurse in Squamish, VCH.
  • “Taking part in the Clean Commuter Challenge has impacted my family life in a positive way. Instead of dropping my 14 year old son off at school on the way to work, he is now taking transit along with me, and he is learning some valuable lessons in being independent, getting up earlier, and he is enjoying the feeling of freedom. This has been a great motivator to use transit. I am less stressed traveling to and from work now using the skytrain.” Heather Eggen, FHA.
