The VCH Board welcomes two new members
Welcome to Ken Brown and Daniel Nocente—two new members recently appointment to the VCH Board by the Ministry of Health. These appointments are not an expansion of the VCH Board membership, but are replacements for two vacancies.
Mr. Kenneth M. Brown
Ken Brown is President of Direct Results Consulting. Previously, he was the President of Qathen Xwegus Management Corporation and the Chief of the Klahoose First Nation. During his tenure as Chief of the Klahoose First Nation from 2007 to 2011, Mr. Brown pursued an aggressive economic development agenda which brought unprecedented economic and employment growth to his Nation. As a strong proponent of independent power projects, he negotiated impact and benefits agreements and managed the Klahoose First Nations involvement in the Toba Montrose Hydro Power Plan. Mr. Brown also negotiated a 120 metre community forest license and was the first of any First Nation on the coast to procure, develop, and manage a successful geoduck tenure. In addition, he developed relationships with the University of British Columbia’s Department of Forest Resource Management for the purpose of better managing opportunities in carbon offset programs, silviculture systems, and modelling long term forest growth and management. Mr. Brown participated on the BC Clean Energy Advisory Task Force and helped develop the Powell River Educational Services Society.
Mr. Daniel L. Nocente
Daniel Nocente is Vice Chairman of Corporate and Investment Banking with National Bank Financial Inc. Previously, he was the Vice Chair and BC Geography Head with RBC Dominion Securities. Active in the community, Mr. Nocente is currently the Past-Chair of the Nature Trust of BC, a member of the University Endowment Land Ratepayers’ Association, and a member of the University of BC’s Dean of Arts Advisory Committee. Previously, he has been a mentor of physically and cognitively challenged adults with the False Creek Residence and a volunteer with Agape and the Vancouver Food Bank. In addition, he served as Chair of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, Vice Chair and Director of Providence Healthcare, Director and head of the governance committee with the Arts Club Theatre Company, and a member of the YMCA Cabinet. Mr. Nocente was also a Director and audit committee chair with Canada Rapid Transit Inc. He holds his Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies from the University of British Columbia and his Master of Business Administration in Finance and Investments from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Nocente has also completed the Leadership in Professional Services Firms course from the Harvard Business School and the Executive Program in Geology, Mining and Processing from the Buchan School of Mining at Queen’s University.
Appointed by and accountable to the Ministry of Health, VCH board members oversee operations, work with management to establish overall strategic direction for the organization and ensure appropriate community consultation. The board also regularly reviews the organization’s long-term plans, significant issues affecting the organization and evaluates results.
