What did you do last Sunday?
VCH Physical Therapists joined others across the globe in celebrating World Physical Therapy Day on Sunday, September 8th. It was an opportunity for physical therapists in over 100 countries to raise awareness about the crucial role our profession plays in making and keeping people well, mobile and independent.
The World Confederation of Physical Therapists’ President – Marilyn Moffat said:
Every year on September 8th, physical therapists around the world use World Physical Therapy Day to draw attention to the contribution the profession can make to the health of individuals and nations. The message is “Movement for Health”. This year we’re promoting the message that keeping fit is an investment for the future, no matter how old you are. We want people to be “Fit for life”.
Physical therapists are experts in developing and maintaining people’s ability to move and function throughout their lives. With an advanced understanding of how the body moves and what keeps it from moving well, we promote wellness, mobility and independence. In a variety of settings, including public health, we treat and prevent many problems caused by pain, illness, impairments and disease, work related injuries, ageing and long periods of inactivity. With these tools we are helping to expedite patient recovery and facilitate them in returning to their full potential.
