VCH participates in Walk for Reconciliation – Residential School Survivors
Sunday September 22, 2013 marked a historic day in Vancouver when more than 70,000 people came together to support survivors of Canada’s Indian Residential Schools. Several VCH employees braved the weather to participate in the walk.
“It was an incredible turnout with heartfelt speeches and a feeling in the crowd that we were all taking an important step together,” said Terri Betts, clinical coordinator, Pharmacy Practice.
Lynn Buhler, executive director, Public Health, described the day as an inspiring gathering. “The opportunity to be present with thousands of people to pay witness to the survivors of Canada’s residential school legacy was a deep and powerful personal experience for me,” said Lynn.
Many thanks to staff of the Aboriginal Wellness Program, the Aboriginal Health Strategic Initiatives, and the many others who came out to pay tribute. In the words of Bernice King, key note speaker:
We must work together as brothers and sisters or we shall all perish together as fools!
We look forward to working together with Aboriginal people as brothers and sisters, and forging a new way ahead.
