DCHC Health Fair a success!!
On Wednesday, August 21, 2013, from 12 to four pm, the Downtown Community Health Centre held its 3rd annual Health Fair at Oppenheimer Park.
The afternoon was fun, educational, and of course was full of health-promotion activities. Over 200 hundred people participated in our health passport challenge. As people visited each booth they had their passport stamped. Completed passports were entered in a draw and 12 people went home with a prize. As a result of the Passport Challenge: 30 people learned about our Women’s Night, 40 people were screened for COPD by our nursing team, 10 people learned about Hepatitis C and/or their liver, 50 people visited the counselling booth, 73 people had their blood pressure done by our nursing team, 100 people had their blood sugar levels checked by our pharmacy team, 123 people learned about the DTES kitchen table project, 29 people were tested for HIV through a POC test, and 17 watermelons were sliced and served by our Health Support Team. We also had the Health Living Program and the MAP Van from WISH attend the event.
Many thanks to the two local residents whose music “ROCKED” the park! We want to say thank you to everyone who participated, especially to the heart of the DTES – the residents who live here – who remind us daily of the importance of caring, quality health care.
