I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tom Ehlen as Medical Director, Perioperative Services, Vancouver Acute, effective September 1, 2012. In this role, Tom is responsible for the overall strategic planning, direction, goals and objectives of the VA Perioperative Program including quality assurance, budgets, policy development, educational planning and research. He will work closely with the Surgeon-in-Chief, the Perioperative Services Department & Division Heads, physicians, staff and other team members including Operations Directors to shape the direction of all facets of the Perioperative Program.
In addition to this new role, Tom has been the Provincial Program Director for Colposcopy since 2001 and has been instrumental in furthering innovation in the cervical cancer screening program in BC. He has been an Active member of the medical staff in the Department of Gynecology at Vancouver Acute since 1991 and served as Medical Director, Surgical Services, VA from 2003 to 2007.
During the past year Tom has ventured into professional car racing, competing in the World Challenge Series and placing top 10 as a Rookie. I have no doubt that his decision to rejoin the physician leadership team at Vancouver Acute will provide an equally stimulating adrenaline rush!
Please join me in welcoming Tom to his new role.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Tom Randall for his leadership of the VA Perioperative Program for the past three years. His dedication, enthusiasm and innovative thinking during this time was a great asset to the organization. Tom continues to be an active member within the Department of Anesthesiology without the administrative responsibilities and we wish him the very best.
