Seeing our services through the eyes of my 3-year old son
I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation towards the staff and ED physician present during an unexpected trip to our Richmond Emergency Department
Unfortunately, my 3 year old son fell and fractured his left arm recently while playing with some little friends. This was my son’s first ‘real’ injury. He was in quite a bit of pain and despite my efforts to reassure him, he was quite nervous about what was going to happen in hospital as we were heading into RH Emergency.
From the point of triage to discharge, the Emergency staff were amazing with my son. They did everything in their power to make him feel at ease as he was being assessed and treated. Every procedure and examination was explained not only to myself as his Mommy, but repeated in ‘toddler’s laymen’ words directly to him so that he could understand what was happening next and be comfortable before things proceeded.
He walked proudly out of the ED with his newly set cast and stickers awarded to him for his bravery by the ED staff.
As a staff member here at Richmond Hospital, I have always been proud to work in VCH Richmond because I get to work alongside and in partnership with such caring, dedicated and skilled staff. Experiencing the ‘other side’ of this care as I did over the weekend, and through the eyes of my 3 year old son, I am even more thankful and admiring of how our Richmond ED not only upholds a ‘People First’ philosophy, but clearly, our staff go above and beyond and put our community’s ‘Little Ones First’ as well.
