Helping clients by design
VCH volunteer Rowan Liivamagi recently received the British Columbia Design Association Student Award of Excellence for her invention Vaartus. Vaartus is a series of gripping aides, worn as jewelry and designed for people with conditions such as Parkinson’s and arthritis that hinder dexterity. Rowan’s creation was inspired by her volunteer work at VCH.
“The client I work with at G F Strong was a big part of the project and has been a huge inspiration to me! In this way, my volunteer work has been a big part of the success I have seen with my project” said Rowan, a recent Emily Carr University graduate.
Rowan has been an active VCH Community Rehabilitation Support volunteer since November 2012.
