The 2013 Vancouver Health and Social Profiles are now online
Access to data is vital for program planning, training and development, to guide collaborative opportunities, and better understand our client population. As service providers, it can be frustrating that available population statistics and demographics are often provided only on the provincial or citywide level, which aggregates Vancouver communities. Yet we know these community health areas are unique with their own different trends, strengths and needs.
The Vancouver Health and Social Profiles were developed and updated by the Vancouver Community Developers in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health’s Public Health Surveillance Unit. The profiles provide local level data about income, housing, education, employment and childhood development. Also included is information on health indicators such as life expectancy, birth rates, standardized mortality ratios, how health services are used, and key community resources.
We hope that these updated profiles will help VCH staff and our partners in community to identify emerging needs, undertake strategic planning, and implement health-supporting initiatives.
