New Medical Manager, Trauma Program
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Naisan Garraway has been appointed into the role of Medical Manager, Trauma Program, Vancouver – Acute Services effective January 1, 2014.
Naisan joined the military in 1992 where he began his medical career as a General Practitioner. Following graduation from the University of Alberta Medical School in 1997 and Family Medicine Residency in Toronto, he worked as a Medical Officer for the Canadian Armed Forces at CFB Shilo. He completed the UBC General Surgery Residency Program in 2006 and has been the Medical Director for the Canadian Forces Trauma Training Centre (West) since that time. He completed a Trauma Fellowship at VGH in 2007 and an Adult Critical Care Fellowship at UBC in 2009. He worked as a General/Trauma Surgeon at the Royal Columbian Hospital for four years before joining the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, VA in 2013.
Ranked as a Lt.-Col. in the military, Naisan did four tours of duty in Afghanistan between 2006 and 2012 as a General/Trauma Surgeon and Critical Care Physician.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Richard Simons for serving as Medical Manager, VA Trauma Program from January 2008 to December 2013. I look forward to continuing to work with Richard is his role as Manager of Physician Contracts, VA Trauma Program as well as a member of our Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery.
