We’re changing the face of mental health

When strolling along VGH’s outdoor campus, you might notice some familiar faces – larger than life – on big green billboards and fence meshing. These images are in fact your co-workers – real members of the VCH community who are helping change the face of mental health.

Changing the Face of Mental Health is VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s new public awareness campaign in support of the soon-to-be built mental health centre at VGH – the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre.

Our objectives are to:

  • Continue to raise funds for the new building (only $3 million left to go!)
  • Help end the stigma associated with mental illness
  • Shed light on the community impact of mental illness
  • Inform the community that construction of the Centre is now underway

Each billboard features a personal story told through the voices of patients and the health care workers providing care to the people suffering from mental illness; people who are personally struggling with some form of mental illness; and support members who are providing comfort and support to a family member, friend or colleague.

When you have some free time, check out the larger-than-life images and stories of your co-workers and see how they are making a difference. The billboards and fencing signs are located along Oak St., Willow St. and Heather St. Visit vghfoundation.ca/mentalhealth to read and share more stories.
