VGH Definitive Surgical Trauma Course
From February 17-18, 2014, 18 qualified surgeons (general, orthopedic and an emergency physician/trauma team leader) came together with 8 nurses from across LGH, VGH and the Canadian Forces to learn about advanced trauma surgery in a lively, interactive and hands-on course.
What did the course cover?
Definitive Surgical Trauma Course (DSTC) is designed to assist clinicians in their decision-making and operative approach relating to serious traumas such as in the case of multiple injured patients with competing priorities. Topics included resuscitation, early definitive care and surgical priorities and were taught by 12 highly experienced faculty members from across Canada.
This annual course offered by VGH provides participants an opportunity to dialogue, learn from one another, ask questions, engage in healthy debate and practice their skills. A huge thank you goes to Dr. Ross Brown, the Course Director, as well as, to the Course Coordinators and Secretariat for all their time and hard work in putting on this 2 day course.
What did participants have to say?
“I loved the discussion and controversy.”
“Good to hear about different practices in different locations.”
