A taste of what’s to come

On March 12, UBC Hospital’s Corner Café celebrated its new healthy menu with an open house. Offering eight new delicious, made-from-scratch entrees, salads and soups for tasting, the cafeteria had no shortage of takers. Sodexo and UBC Hospital partnered to bring this new eating experience to customers.  In keeping with B.C.’s Healthy eating guidelines, the improved, healthier menu has less fat, salt and sugar content. And it’s a taste of what’s to come at other VCH cafeterias.

“UBC Hospital and the Corner Café are leading the way,” says Jill Liu, Sodexo manager of retail food services. “We’re the first to adapt our menu and comply with the guidelines within VCH, and we’re helping to set the standard for our other VCH retail food services.”

The Corner Café’s new menu and new look (hello new sautée station) will help recharge customers and support a healthy lifestyle. If you haven’t visited the cafeteria recently, join them for lunch Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 1:30pm. Save on cash and calories — but not the flavour!

They love it, they really love it!

Along with fan favourites — Thai fried rice and shepherd’s pie — people gobbled up strawberry and chocolate quinoa salad, Brunswick stew and butternut squash chili at the Corner Café’s open house. Changes to the menu are proving very popular with employees, patients and families. But don’t believe us — hear what people have to say for themselves:

“Love the new menu! I come here more regularly now.”  – Angela

“It was wonderful. I would love to have it again in the future.” – Cathy, Psychology Department

“The presentation of the many gourmet dishes was great and the service of the staff is professional and friendly. We enjoyed it very much.” – Rolf and Jenny, Purdy Pavilion

“I love that [the cafeteria offers] turkey [every day]. It’s fantastic!” – Jordana, Centre for Huntington’s Disease
