Thank you to our volunteers
On behalf of all the Coastal Senior Leadership Team, sincere thanks to our volunteers in the Coastal Community of Care. Volunteers improve the patient and client experience in acute and community-based setting through the selfless donation of their time and energy. While our Coastal volunteers represent all age groups and walks of life, they are alike in their desire to help. Coastal volunteers are active across our many Coastal communities.
For example over the past year our volunteers:
- Welcomed and provided assistance and way finding in the main lobby of LionsGateHospital to 32,000 hospital visitors, staff and patients.
- Supported community health nurses and families of newborns during 175 North Shore Well Baby Clinic drop ins.
- Provided assistance and comfort to 14,800 visitors and families in the LGH Emergency department.
- Served 6,300 dinners to community residents attending the Congregate Meals ‘Diner’s Club’ evenings and 6,153 meals were delivered by 30 volunteers (Meals on Wheels).
- Assisted 30,000 customers of the LGH gift shop and off site Thrift Shop.
- Welcomed and provided assistance and way finding at the WhistlerHealthCareCenter.
- 40 volunteers provided 520 rides to transport patients to specialty appointments.
- 25 volunteers shopped for over 50 clients on the Sunshine Coast.
- Over 300 members of the St. Marys Hospital Auxiliary work at the Gift Shop, the Loan Cupboard, the Hospital and at Shorncliffe and Totem Lodge.
- Volunteer support provided Squamish GeneralHospital with necessary funding for an intravenous solution warmer, blanket warmer and new baby respirator.
- Powell River Health Care volunteers donated 67594 hours in 2013.
National Volunteer Week is April 6-12. Please take a moment next week to thank a Coastal volunteer for their valuable commitment, dedication and contribution.
Sincerely,
Wendy Hansson
