Join us for the NMO 5 km Walk/Run June 1
What would you do if one day your life was turned upside down? One night you lay your head down to sleep and wake up to a completely different world. There is panic, fear, questions, tears and finally after what seems like an eternity, a diagnosis. A diagnosis so rare, that most medical professionals will never come across it in their entire career. What if that diagnosis was not for you, but for your child?
Riley Reimer, an Eagle Ridge elementary school student in Coquitlam, suffers from Neuromyelitis Optic, a rare disorder in which a person’s own immune system attacks the optic nerves and spinal cord. His family is hosting the 2nd annual 5 km Walk/Run fundraiser and awareness walk Sunday, June 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody. Last year the Reimer family raised over $12,000 for NMO research at Vancouver General Hospital. This year they are hoping to raise $25,000.
NMO is a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system, typically the spinal cord and optic nerves. It can cause temporary or permanent blindness and/or paralysis. There is currently no cure for NMO. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about NMO and to raise much needed funds for NMO research. Come and join us on June 1 and show your support to those living with NMO.
