Reports of productivity loss and other user frustrations compelled VCH Senior Leadership and Information Management/Information Technology Services (IMITS) to do a definitive study on how PARIS is currently used.
PARIS is a system solution specific to the needs of Community Health that supports client registration, referrals, assessments, case notes, care plans, immunizations, scheduling, wait lists, and billing.
The results were telling. Clinicians spent anywhere from 19-29% of their day (between 1.5 and two-plus hours) completing PARIS activities. So, if the time clinicians spend on PARIS could be reduced by 25%, they’d have an additional 22 to 33 minutes per day to care for their clients. Multiply that by the total number of clinicians in the region, and there’s a compelling argument for investment into the system to make it more functional and less time consuming.
VCH Leadership agreed. They gave the PARIS team and VCH over $700,000 in capital funding over the next two years to achieve this goal.
Planned improvements include streamlining documentation and standardizing workflows, providing clinical practice support through education, and to implement many cross program “quick win” changes in the system to improve usability.
