VGH Cardiac Heart Throbs “get physical”!

The VGH Cardiac Heart Throbs claim to know a bit about hearts!

On May 28, 2014, the ’80’s “Let’s Get Physical” themed crew of 30 flexed their neon spandex and head bands at the Heart & Stroke Big Bike event. Riders included nurses, nurse practitioners, allied health, Residents, Fellows and physicians from the wards, outpatient clinics, and labs of VGH Cardiology/ Cardiac Surgery. Everyone jumped aboard the unique 30-person bike and showed their spirit and support to raise awareness for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Escorted by a Vancouver Police Department motorcycle officer, we weaved our way through rush-hour traffic in Downtown Vancouver. Motorists and pedestrians cheered us on, honking horns and taking pictures. The Big Bike was rocking and bouncing to our “Girls just want to have fun” while we peddled through the streets.

The VGH Cardiac Heart Throbs raised almost $17,000 for Heart & Stroke, currently making us the number one fundraising team in Vancouver! To add to the excitement and motivation, a friendly challenge was made with the St. Paul’s Masked Heroes.

It was a fun-tastic evening and a great team-building exercise. Co-captains Pam Colley and Sherry Mark would like to give kudos to all our supporters and participants!
