Try walking to work
Walking is a free form of transportation. It is a fun and easy activity for all ages. Anyone can do it at almost anywhere, anytime. It does not require a person to have special skills and has a very minimal equipment needs.
A city block is roughly 200 steps or a 2-minute walk. Typically, a half-hour walk can cover just under 3km or one-third of the recommended number of steps an average adult should walk each day.
As you build your comfort in half-hour walks, the range of your “walking distance” to and from work can increase. In the beginning, you may combine walking with other forms of transportation such as public transit while increasing your step count gradually. If you drive, you may wish to park your car farther away each day. Try walking once a week to give it a try. If you love to walk really far, walk halfway once a month.
We also suggest walking meetings to increase your step count. According to Harvard Business Review, there’s something about being side-by-side that puts the problem or ideas before you and allows you to work on them together. You may even be able to listen better when you’re walking next to someone rather than sitting across a table. Not only you work on a common goal, you also work towards your daily 10,000 recommended steps – together!
Walking is a great work de-stressor. Many of our colleagues have discovered the overall health and financial benefits of walking. More employees are saving on car expenses and gym membership costs, and staying active and well.
So, what are you waiting for? Get those feet walking now!

I appreciate the effort to promote active transportation. However, I felt it was important to point out that for those with mobility limitations, walking is not always “fun and easy” and it is definitely not something that “anyone can do.” Please make sure you’re being sensitive to the range of abilities amongst us. Thanks!
