October brings many lovely things including Pumpkin Spice Latte, tiny packaged candies and OT Month. This month is even sweeter as one of the VCH occupational therapy leadership team, Lori Cyr, begins her two-year team as President of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

Lori works as the Practice Coordinator/Clinical Resource Therapist for the Mary Pack Arthritis Program, having also had experience at GF Strong and George Pearson Centres. “Over my career I’ve had the chance to explore and develop interests in diverse clinical areas, most recently being certified as a trainer for Brief Action Planning”

“I am excited to be taking on the role of CAOT President.” says Lori. “Volunteerism has always been a dearly held value of mine. Having done everything from stuffing envelops to leading an international working group, I feel up to the task. I’ve learned so much from my many volunteer experiences and expect to be challenged and stimulated in a multitude of ways.”

CAOT promotes excellence in professional practice through sharing of resources, providing opportunities for networking and advocating for greater awareness of the profession in government, funder and public realms.

“CAOT is the therapist’s partner in providing the best, evidence based service to our clients. My connection with the clinical community gives me a great perspective of what OTs face in their practices.” If you’re not sure what occupational therapists do, check out a 3 minute video developed by UBC OT students.
