The following letter was received from a recent visitor to the Emergency Department at Richmond Hospital
This past weekend, my wife dropped me off at the Richmond Hospital Emergency Ward. The admission staff were both very friendly and efficient in processing the necessary paperwork and I was delighted to find that I was admitted within a few minutes of being processed.
However, what impressed both my wife and I was the attending physician – Dr. Nancy Austin. Her pleasant nature and extraordinary bedside manner was far beyond previous experiences or my expectations. Not only did she take her time in explaining what had happened to me and the expected recover period, she did so in a truly caring and compassionate manner.
My physical injuries aside, she was able to “heal” my bruised ego with an anecdotal story to make me feel much better – all part of the healing process. As I reflect upon my accident, I consider myself lucky on so many levels. One of these was having Dr. Austin take care of me.
We are often quick to write and comment about poor services but I think it is more important to share positive experiences. Good people need to be recognized for the contributions they make in our community. RH should consider itself lucky to have such an extraordinary individual – Dr. Nancy Austin.
