“They made me feel safe”

After a car crash shattered one patient’s life, the care he received at VGH – and from one very impressive RN in training – made a lasting impression. Here, he shares his story in his own words:

“Dear VGH,

[I] was admitted to your hospital … after a car crash on the Sunshine Coast near Sechelt.  I underwent surgery on my pelvis the next morning and remained in the hospital for about 2 weeks.  I am happy to report that I am well on my way to a full recovery.

I was very impressed by the quality of care that I received at VGH.  All of the people who took care of me did an excellent job and I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

I would like to draw specific attention to your incredible nurses for whom I am so grateful.  Their consistent care and kindness was remarkable and had a huge impact on me and my family.  During a very difficult, painful and sometimes embarrassing time they made me feel safe and put me at ease.  If there is any way that you could pass on my deepest thanks to those who were assigned to me I would very much appreciate it.

I would also like to say that I was incredibly impressed by one of the nurses, named Kelly, because it turned out that she was still in training.  Had she not told me, I would never have known that she was not yet a full-fledged nurse.  She was very good at her job and certainly upheld the high standards of the rest of the nurses who cared for me.

Unfortunately, due to the pain meds I was on and the time it has been since I left your care I’m not sure that I could accurately name every nurse I was blessed to have, so I won’t try for fear that I would miss someone.  But please note that I could not be more grateful for all of them.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in my recovery and for everything you did for me!”
