The nurses behind the needles
PNI – You may not know what it stands for but there’s a chance you’ve encountered some lately. PNI’s are peer nurse immunizers – VCH nurses who get specially trained to help vaccinate their coworkers for flu season. Watch this short video about two of VCH’s 220 PNI’s, Lindsay Bendickson and Sian Roberts, and watch them in action.
Where to get a flu shot
PNIs will be holding special clinics on their units for the next few weeks. Ask your manager if there’s a PNI on your unit. Otherwise, you can get a flu shot at a special clinic for health care staff, a walk-in clinic, most pharmacies or at a clinic for the public.
Report your immunization
Once you’ve had your shot, you’ll need to report it. Visit https://flu.vch.ca and complete the form. The form takes less than one minute to complete.
VCH medical staff (doctors, dentists, midwives and nurse practitioners), fellows and other regulated health professionals (scientific & research staff, podiatrists, psychologists, denturists, etc.) can self-report through one of the following methods:
- Online: https://medicalstaffhealth.vch.ca/
- Email: medicalstaffhealth@vch.ca
- Phone: (604) 875-4111 ext. 69597
Win an iPad mini!
Snap a selfie (a photo of yourself) when you get your flu shot and submit it to the VCH Facebook page and be entered to win one of two mini-iPads!
Post your flu shot selfie by December 1. And if you’ll be wearing a mask for the season instead, take a selfie wearing a mask.
If you don’t have a Facebook account email your submission tofluprevention@vch.ca with Super Selfie as the subject. The same deadlines listed above apply.
