Green+Leaders training: Coming soon!
Today’s health care climate
Did you know that health care operations create more climate altering greenhouse gases than any other government sector in B.C.? (Source: click here )
There’s no doubt about it, health care uses a disproportionate amount of natural resources and produces large amounts of waste.
Environmental sustainability
The Green+Leaders program aims to change this fact by providing training, toolkits and support to health authority staff who want to improve the environmental sustainability of their workplaces.
Green+Leader, Susan Shyluk, was drawn to the program for this very reason.
“I had a nurse mentor about 10 years ago who explained to me what a huge contributor hospitals are to waste and greenhouse gasses,” explains the RN. “She was really ahead of her time, and now I bet that she would be pleased that we are making an effort to change our ways for the health of our environment.”
Sepia Sharma also sees the Green+Leaders program as a chance to reduce health care’s ecological footprint.
“If you are concerned about the impact our sector has on the environment, I would encourage you to join the Green+Leaders program,” says Sharma, who is also a community health specialist. “This is your chance to make a difference and have a lot of fun doing it.”
