Clear your closet for Boxing Day sales!
Our VGH Thrift Store needs your previously loved clothing and footwear. The store’s inventory is running low and they’re in need of new items to sell. All net proceeds — that’s right, 100 per cent! — go to benefitting patients and residents.
Thrift Store donation bin at VGH
Donating to the VGH Thrift Store is easy. You can drop off your adult and children’s clothing and footwear at the store’s donation bin on the VGH campus:
Vancouver General Hospital
Centennial Pavilion Ground Floor (donation bin located in the stretcher bay outside the service elevators)
You’re also welcome to drop off clothing, books, kitchenware and other donations at the store during opening hours (see below).
Thrift Store sales make a difference
Originally formed to fund an emergency clothing program for patients in need, the VGH Thrift Store has grown to make a difference for patients, residents and families in many ways. Every year the non-profit store gives $30,000 or more to fund projects and events at VGH and UBC Hospital, including:
- Christmas presents – Gifts to Banfield residents and mental health patients are sometimes the only Christmas presents these people receive.
- Renovations – Painting and refurbishing of the Brief Intervention Unit’s patient/family lounge, the most widely used room on the mental health unit.
- Equipment – A wide range of equipment, including Apheresis machines used extensively in the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program; a Bungee Mobility Trainer used to help patients regain the ability to walk or improve their dynamic balance skills; and Anaesthesia machines.
- And, of course, the Emergency Clothing Fund for Emergency Services patients in need.
