“I may not have presented myself well.”

When a patient found herself in the VGH Emergency Department, she was fearful and in distress. Through the pain and worry she couldn’t help notice the care and compassion shown to her and others.

Here’s her story:

“I am writing to thank the staff I have met at VGH.

The reception was warm and efficient. The first nurse for my area was very friendly. He spoke of some of my symptoms before I even said them.  The nurse for the morning shift made my stretcher such a warm and comfortable bed, and folded my clothes so neatly into the belongings bag that I don’t think I’ve even done such a good job at home for a long time.

I was never left lost or left wandering around in the emergency area. Everybody explained the procedures very well, and kept me informed about what was going to happen to me. In my opinion, that is truly a job well done.

The nurse who discharged me was compassionate and patient. Everyone who came over  to do tests for me were friendly and professional. Dr. Lee and the doctor who discharged me were knowledgeable, thorough, and responsible. I have also seen some very compassionate scenes in emergency area.

Amid everything, I was probably the only person who was very disoriented, in pain, and in fear of the return of 10year long chronic pain. I do apologize that as a person in pain with too much pain killing cream on, I was in distress. I may not have presented myself well.

I wish everyone a happy new year in 2015.”
