New Year’s resolutions – think big, start small
January offers us an opportunity to renew something in our lives. It might be a commitment we made to ourselves to do better or something more concrete, such as losing twenty pounds or training for the Vancouver Sun Run. No matter what it may be, January most often marks a beginning, and the thought of change can come with mixed emotions. Shedding old and inviting new allows us the opportunity to add a new brick to our life path or strengthen one that already exists. This isn’t always easy, even when the intent is good. All too often, full gyms in January slowly dwindle in numbers only to be empty by early March.
When it comes to staying on track, understanding and being well prepared for the process of change can go far. When setting your goal, make sure it is attainable. Planning to spend time on doing something extra when there is no extra time available can end up in frustration and giving up too early. Goals should be realistic. Who can actually, or should, live on six hundred calories a day for long? Make sure you share your goals and intentions with someone you trust. Getting a supportive yet objective perspective on your plan can be helpful in staying real. No matter what you choose to change, know that change is attainable when you set goals that have true value and are part of a plan that is complimented by support to help you get there!
