North Shore conference garners rave reviews again

“Powerful speakers, effective presentations,” is how one happy participant summed up their experience at the third annual Geriatric Psychiatric Conference-North Shore that took place in the Lions Gate Hospital Gymnasium last week (Feb. 27).

The sold-out event brought more than 160 participants from across the Lower Mainland and some of Coastal’s rural communities to learn more about key mental health and addiction issues facing older adults in growing numbers.

This extremely low-cost event had to turn interested attendees away and featured presentations on current, relevant, best practice, practical applications to everyday practice on topics such as:

  • Mental Health and Addictions and Community Partners on the Circle of Care for the Older Adult
  • Addictions in the elderly re: Alcohol
  • Geriatrics and Primary Care-“It Takes a Village!”
  • BPSD in Dementia
  • Adult Guardianship Act-Capability Assessments
  • DSM-V-Case Studies

“On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I’d like to thank everyone for attending and encourage you all to mark your calendars and register early for our 4th Annual event on February 26, 2016,” says North Shore Older Adult Mental Health Team Lead Linda Feng.

“We’d also like to thank the Blenz Café at HOpe for its support of this key project as well as the Canadian Mental Health Association.”

The conference was made possible by the work of the North Shore Older Adult Mental Health Team and the organizing committee of:

  • Dr Arvind Kang-Clinical Manager-OAMHT
  • Dr Dean Brown-Director of Family Practice-Lions Gate Hospital and North Shore
  • Tanis Evans-Manager-OAMHT
  • Linda Feng-Team Lead-OAMHT
