Powell River applauds their new Willingdon Creek Village facility
More than 400 Powell River residents turned out for a Feb. 21 Community Open House event celebrating the upcoming opening of the Willingdon Creek Village Residential Care facility.
“Community turnout was excellent and we received a lot of positive comments from impressed Powell River residents,” says Colin Palmer, Chair of the Powell River Regional Hospital District Board, the owner of the new complex care facility that will be leased to VCH.
The new facility will receive its first residents later this month and wind up being home to 102 people from the Powell River area. Willingdon Creek Village is replacing the Olive Devaud Residence, which was built in 1966 and not designed to meet the advanced care needs of today’s residential care clients.
Of the 102 beds, 17 will be for a secure Special Care Unit for residents with advanced dementia and challenging behaviours.
