Your poll results to date: transportation referendum

While VCH is taking a neutral position on the upcoming Metro Vancouver transportation referendum, we are interested to hear how you are planning to vote. The BCGreenCare.ca site is hosting a poll to see how health care staff will vote, and why.

As a reminder, the formal voting is via a mail-in ballot that will be sent out beginning March 16, 2015. You have until May 29 to mail in your vote. For more information on the vote, click here.

Polling results to date

While a Metro-Vancouver poll shows that only 33 percent are in favour of congestion tax to pay for expanded transit and road infrastructure, the majority of health care staff said they would vote yes (48 %), with the remaining either undecided (22%) or voting no (30%).

What you’re saying

We have received feedback on the posts on BCGreenCare site as well as on the blogs by Dr Patricia Daly, Chief Medical Health Officer with VCH, who is encouraging a ‘yes’ vote.

The feedback reflects a diversity of opinions. One health care staff says, “The transportation improvements probably will not impact my commute much, as my route is well served by public transit and bike routes, but they will give me more options when I travel to off-site meetings.”Another mentions, “Many of the people that I talk to want the investments but not the tax.”A long distance commuter says, “We need a 100% robust public transportation network to make it easy and pleasurable for people to use.”And some of you agree with a ‘yes’ vote that links human and environmental health: “A small investment in public health can offer high returns.”
