We showed real leadership on Anti-Bullying Day
Last week VCH CEO Mary Ackenhusen posted a blog piece on the organization’s activities around Anti-Bullying Day (Pink Shirt Day) and how we showed our strong support for a culture of respect. Here is an excerpt:
It is my belief, and the belief of the senior executive team at VCH, that we can only be a strong supportive organization if we can openly speak about what’s working, and what is not. Sweeping bad news under the rug is not what we want to promote and reward here at VCH. Rather we want VCH staff, physician and leaders to feel comfortable bringing forward different points of view, even if they are not the popular view, for discussion. In the culture that we are building, I would like everyone to feel “safe” and able to speak their mind. I think that we are all committed to improving the system, and it will take lots of debate and creativity to do this. Accepting the status quo, as comfortable as it might be, is not likely going to get us there.
