Volunteers needed for Meals on Wheels

The Health and Home Care Society of BC (Care BC) urgently needs volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels to Vancouver and Richmond residents at risk of malnutrition or social isolation.

Some volunteers working hard.

Some Vancouver volunteers enjoying their work.

Care BC delivers over 2,500 meals a week to individuals who may be unable to shop or cook for themselves but wish to remain in their own homes. Increased demand for our services means we need to recruit more volunteers to prevent potential shortcomings in service.

Every weekday, between 11am and 1pm, our volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients’ homes and provide an informal check on their safety. Without the generosity and dedication of our volunteers, we would not be able to sustain this invaluable program which allows seniors in our community to remain in the comfort of their own homes as long as they choose.

Volunteers without their own vehicle are able to utilize our car sharing accounts, may participate in our Meals on Bikes program, or can partner with a driver to deliver meals. Care BC also provides mileage reimbursement to help offset the costs of driving your own vehicle.

Interested?

Interested volunteers should contact Jacquie Gallivan at gallivanj@carebc.ca or (604) 733-9177 ext 107 as soon as possible.

I would like to get more info on what your needs are in Vancouver. I’m especially interested in your bike delivery option. I work shifts (day/night) so I would need to pick and choose througout the week. Thanks, Julie
