Look up. Look waaaay up.
Construction of the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre on the VGH campus has reached a new milestone. The City of Vancouver has issued the project’s first building permit, allowing us to begin work on the building’s foundation and concrete ground floor. But, first, we have a few other tasks to do.
May 8: Odour alert!
Starting Friday, May 8, an exposed tunnel currently out of commission will have a roof membrane applied for waterproofing purposes. This membrane will create an odour similar to a freshly tarred roof, and those working on the ground floor may smell this through the weekend.
May 13 to 15: Crane installation
Starting Wednesday, May 13, the construction crane will be installed. At about 55 metres in height —that’s almost 17 storeys high — the crane will stand 8 to 9 metres taller than Centennial Pavilion. For more detail, please refer to the JRSFHC Construction Update attached below.
The Willow Street lane will remain closed to vehicles while the crane is installed. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to use Willow lane to cross the inner courtyard at VGH.
The Willow Street lane will re-open on Saturday, May 16, to vehicular traffic. See the map below.
