Nurses week results are in!
For this year’s Nursing Week, clinical education teamed up with Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) and Management, Development & Learning Technologies to focus on the question: “Are you ready… For Health Informatics?” Tom Grady and his Learning Technologies team put together an excellent video trailer for the topic and thanks to the students and staff on T9 JP Pavilion at VGH who made this possible! CST donated a “Workplace on Wheels” (WOW) for the day, which we displayed at the VGH booth (with the help of Pamela Dawkins,). clinical ed assistant, Anna Chou, put together an eye-catching display board! At Lions Gate Hospital, Karen Schafer, education lead for Simulation Strategy, visited the units to give nurses a first-hand look at the incredible potential for simulation based education. We tested your computer skills! Over 130 nurses from acute, rehab, residential and community visited the booths and participated in an anonymous computer literacy self-assessment and (hopefully) had some fun along the way! The self-assessment quiz was geared to help understand where nurses were in relation to comfort with navigating computers, basic software, and web-based resources.
Generally, staff scored high on most items such as using computer hardware, keyboards, computer applications, online resources and email. While a few staff identified difficulties with using a computer, and/or using email and difficulty navigating a keyboard and mouse, the vast majority of respondents rated themselves as competent in these categories.

If you do fall into the minority, however, never fear, there are resources to help you work on these skills! If you or someone you work with would like more information, they can check out this resource developed by the CST team: Computer Literacy Tool Kit July, 2015
