Clinic nurse and chanteuse Irma Edwin shares a tune with “The Medics”

Block Bustin’ Health Fair

The Downtown Community Health Centre (DCHC) held its annual health fair on the streets of the Downtown Eastside last Wednesday September 2, 2015.

Storm clouds parted and billows of smoky sweetgrass filled the air as the health fair opened with a smudging ceremony. Neighbourhood guitar gods, “The Medics”, continued the positive vibes, playing out the afternoon. Fairgoers were challenged to complete a Passport to Health, with prizes generously supplied by local merchants Army & Navy and Save On Meats.

Fair organizers would like to send a heartfelt shoutout to our community partners: AIDS Vancouver, ATIRA Resources Women’s Society’s EWMA, Carnegie Centre’s Women’s Night, LivingRoom Drop In, Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation, Mission Possible, Mobile Access Project (MAP) Van, Options for Sexual Health, Paul (technical director), Positive Living BC, Sheway, Vancouver Native Health Society’s Eastside Dental Clinic and Season 4 Change: HIV Self-Management Program, and VCH’s Health Living Program and Volunteer Resources.

The Downtown Community Health Centre is a primary care clinic providing health care services to marginalized populations in the Downtown Eastside, a vibrant inner city neighbourhood in Vancouver.
