Hostess Program at UBC Hospital Coming Soon!
Sodexo is pleased to introduce the Hostess Program to UBC hospital starting October 6, 2015.
The Hostess Program is a patient centered meal program that offers choice and flexibility with meals. Sodexo hostesses, equipped with iPads, will begin visiting acute care patients at the bedside to take their meal orders for that same day. Units included in this program are 1S and 1T.
The hostess program empowers patients to take part in their care by allowing them to make meal selections that reflect their personal preferences and apetite during their hospital stay. All meal selections will be made within the patients prescribed diet order.
The hostess program aims to improve patient satisfaction, reduce food waste and improve communication processes with the food service department.

Why is this program called “hostess?” It sounds sexist and gender based. The word “HOSTESS” implies alot of different things around the world, mostly involving women, with alot of connotations around serving men. I would think Sodexo would be more sensitive to this when naming a food service product “hostess.” Not the best name.

Thank you for your feedback. You raise a valid point regarding your concern; as a company that prides itself on diversity & inclusion, with a particular focus on gender equality, we take your perspective seriously.
The Hostess Program’s name has been adapted from Sodexo’s food service program Expressly For You, where our food service staff (host/hostess) go up to visit patients to take their meal orders.
Based on your feedback we will review the name of the program.
Kind Regards,
