Small group. Heavy weights!
For the third year in a row staff at VCH Health Protection, Vancouver office, have organized a departmental challenge to raise much needed food and funds for the Food Bank in January. After the Christmas holidays, the Food Bank is depleted of goods and requires donations to replenish their Community Kitchens. At the beginning of December staff separated into teams of eight and collected as much cash and nutritious food as they could in order to be crowned the top Food Drive Champions of the New Year. Bragging rights are then bestowed among the winners for the rest of 2016.
This year competition was thick as four teams were ready to dethrone reigning champs, The Tabacco Group. Halfway through the challenge Victorious Secret was able to gain credence and give The Tabacco Group a run for their money. This was partly in thanks to reinforcements from Got Soap? who forfeited their team for the good of the game. Both teams were neck and neck until Tabacco Group threw a curveball by submitting last-minute cash donations, edging them overall to the number one spot.
So for the third year in a row, congratulations to The Tabacco Group! Be wary of your title as Victorious Secret is strategizing plans for the next holiday drive.
“Food is something that satisfies so many different aspects of our everyday lives. It not only provides us with nutrition but is also a great tool for creating social interactions and generally just making people happy,” said Jonathan Choi, Senior Environmental Health Officer and team member of The Tabacco Group. “This friendly competition within the office is just another way for our team to give back to the community and clients that we may work with on a day-to-day basis.”
Altogether teams collected 734lbs of goods and $538 in cash donations. So thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Food Drive, you are all winners in The Food Bank’s eyes!
