Network downtime on January 13th

On Wednesday, January 13th from 0200 (2:00 a.m.) to 0600 (6:00 a.m.) the JPN3 Data Centre network circuit at VGH will be upgraded to accommodate the new Provincial Diagnostic Imaging Repository (DIR) and upgraded Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) across VCH, PHC and PHSA.

Minimizing impacts to patient care

During the upgrade, there will be a number of brief interruptions to network connectivity. While the network will stay “up” and workstations will likely appear to function normally, all staff across VCH and PHC are instructed to revert to their downtime procedures and refrain from accessing the network and using their workstations for the duration of the upgrade.

If you use your workstation during the interruptions to network traffic, there will be an elevated risk of data loss and data corruption. By enforcing a precautionary downtime for all applications and systems, the integrity of the data will be maintained and impacts to patient care will be minimized.

How do you prepare?

To prepare for the upgrade, please ensure you do the following:

• Log off of your workstation before 0200 (2:00 a.m.) on Wednesday, January 13th.
• Leave your workstation powered on.
• Do NOT use your workstation on Wednesday, January 13th from 0200 (2:00 a.m.) to 0600 (6:00 a.m.).
• Revert to your downtime procedures for the duration of the upgrade.

Following the upgrade, you will not experience any changes to the way applications or systems function. However, if your workstation, printer, fax machine, or applications are unresponsive after the upgrade, please reboot.
