Involving patients in your quality improvement work
Are you or your department or team seeking training on how to include patient and public input in your quality improvement work?
Are you seeking tools and methods to support you in establishing a culture of patient and family centred care?
Do you need ideas and tools to gather patient and family feedback in order to inform planning for services and to improve care and the patient experience?
The VCH Community Engagement department supports VCH staff to include patient and client perspectives in quality improvement work. We work with teams across our health region and all sectors of care (community, acute and residential) to support the planning and implementing of meaningful engagement processes that inform our work and result in better decisions and outcomes.
Workshops
Join us for an upcoming workshop where CE can help you to identify needs and opportunities to gather patient and family feedback, and explore simple and practical methods for including the ‘patient voice’ in your planning and quality improvement work.
At the completion of the 3.5 hour workshop you will be able to:
• Understand the purpose of community engagement and when it is relevant to your work
• Review the guiding principles of community engagement as a framework to inform and support the practice of patient public engagement
• Look at various tools and methods for patient and public engagement, considering types of engagement that will meet your team’s needs related to quality improvement
• Develop a specific engagement plan for gathering and using input from patients and families to inform improvement
All staff who take the course will receive a copy of the “How To” Guide to Community Engagement -Involving the public to improve health outcomes as well as a copy of “How to Engage Patient and Public Advisors: A Guide for Staff” and other tools.
