They “basically saved me from losing it”
In a letter to express his gratitude, a former patient on the VGH General Surgery/Vascular unit explains how the team of nurses on JP 8B made all the difference in the world:
I just spent three and a half weeks on 8B of Jimmy Pattison (minus a couple of days off at Xmas for good behavior!) and had three procedures, one of which was a major surgery.
The thing that most impressed me was the superb level of patient care I received from ALL the nurses. I never pressed the call button once, simply because they always made sure they were there when needed. I can’t say enough good things about the way I was treated and their kindness and compassion and dedication, particularly when, on top of everything else, I had an atrial fibrillation episode one night (yes, it does come with the interesting symptom of experiencing impending doom!), and the night nurse and the morning nurse both basically saved me from losing it. It was a very long three and a half weeks, and the nurses got me through it.
Although I won’t miss 0600 rounds and blood tests and taking my IV tree with me to the washroom every hour, I really did enjoy talking to so many of the nurses and learning a bit about their jobs!
I am doing well at home now, and very glad to be here.
All the best, and thank you.
