Clean Commuter & Wellness Challenge is back!
Summer’s just around the corner and the Clean Commuter & Wellness Challenge is back from June 6th to 19th!
What is the Clean Commuter & Wellness Challenge?
The Clean Commuter & Wellness Challenge recognizes, celebrates and encourages VCH, FH, PHSA, and PHC staff who make, or want to make, the clean and active choice when commuting.
In 2015 we had 52 teams and over 560 participants in the Challenge – let’s try and beat that this year!
What does ‘clean and active’ mean?
Examples include biking, walking, carpooling, and taking transit. What they all have in common is that they are better for you and better for the environment than driving a single-occupancy vehicle every day.
How does the Challenge work?
- The CCWC is for cyclists, walkers, joggers, transit-users, carpoolers, rideshares, skate-boarders, and any other clean & active transportation choice you already make, or wish to try over a 2-week period.
- You can participate as an individual or create / join a team
- You set a baseline and then track your commutes (daily or weekly), and you are entered to win prizes each week.
- We have prizes for Avoiders (those that already have a clean commute), Reducers (those that make a change over the 2-week campaign) and Self-Propellers (those that turn their commute into a workout).
- We want to hear and share your stories!
So, why do it?
It’s a chance to get out of your car & try something new, save some cash, get fit and healthy, compete as a team AND win prizes. But don’t just take our word for it! Hear what some participants from previous years have said:
“I loved the Commuter Challenge and now I’m trying to figure out how to leave my car at home and start bike-commuter-community nursing!” [VCH]
“Why did we join? At the heart of it, we have a soft spot for initiatives that bring people together in pursuit of good health – whether that’s through active lifestyles, sustainable living, or some other means. Participating in the Clean Commuter Challenge was just a great way to support that.” [PHSA]
“Thanks for putting this challenge on – it definitely raised awareness and the friendly competitive spirit within our team!” [PHC]
“This has been a great motivator to use transit. I am less stressed traveling to and from work now using the Sky Train” [FHA]
