I’m pleased to announce that Ella Young has agreed to join VCH as director, Care Continuum and Actuarial Analytics.
Ella comes to us from her role as director, Actuarial and Risk Analytics with MOH where she was responsible for building highly accurate predictive models focused on chronic diseases, informing health sector decision making and providing leadership in modeling and data access. Prior to that, she worked with HEABC as Senior Consultant in the Physician Services Secretariat, assisting MOH to formulate physician compensation policies and strategies, including work on emergency physician alternate payment allocations.
Previously in health, she worked with CHSPR at UBC, PHC on ER Reengineering, and the Provincial Blood Coordinating Office. In addition, she has held senior positions in the energy and insurance industries including Risk Manager for Worksafe BC where she built and implemented predictive models that highly accurately identified likely future high-risk claims, and Western Region Business Development for Marsh Canada.
Ella also has a wide range of volunteer and personal interests, including having served on the Board of the Renfrew-Collingwood Seniors Society and qualifications in diving, sailing, ballroom dance, bridge, and swimming.
Ella holds a Masters’ in Health Administration from UBC and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Actuarial Science and Finance from the University of Manitoba. In addition, she has certifications as a Risk Manager, and both Canadian and American Health Executive.
In her new role, Ella will join the leadership team in Decision Support to strengthen our capacity in predictive analytics, including applications in:
- Chronic disease management
- Patient focused funding
- Sick and other absences
- Clinical and system transformation
